Be honest , is the place you work in ,CARE about you being safe? When you ask for something as simple as a light bulb change in a dark hallway does any one listen? How about policy on a patient that brings in a weapon? Let me know what your answers are please and check out our website at http://www.stophealthcareviolence.org/

one year later on a case
After many times in court ,the judge decided this man, that hit the nurse in her face will have two years probation! With this probation he will have alcoho land drug testing , anger management ,mental health evaluation ,and he will write a letter of apology to the nurse and one to her family. Now this nurse took being a paient advocate a step further by having be held accountable for his actions. BRAVO to this nurse and all other nurses that go this route.

healthcareviolence
3/18/10 another assault in the ER. Police called but they didn't see the assault soooo nothing can be done about the patient being removed but a police report was made out and the patient was brought to the police station the next day. This is the second assault by the same patient in 4 mos. The first assault had a nurse out for over 3 months.
Questions If a patient stays in the ER and receives no treatment . Many organizations put lots of restraints on organizations do they see how this effects the patient.?

Working in an emergency is not only busy but also very dangerous. Many people come in to be treated for what ever their ailment of the day but we don't know their true history. One of the emergency rooms I work at ,has started a workplace violence task force meeting every month. From that task force many things have happened all for the better. The one I would like to write about is the security team. The task force put a security guard in the ED on fri,sat and Sunday from 4pm-12 midnight. It was great, our security guards have not been professionally trained but they will protect the staff and the patients and they did a great job with it. Every monday a letter went to their boss telling him how great they were. Security was able to intervene so many times truely keeping the staff and patients safe. Well out of the blue they no longer are assigned to the ED they can walk thru the ED but there isn't the man power for him to stay. The problem is no one was aware of it! Makes you wonder what really goes on in management.

nurses are getting hurt by the patients they take care of
At times I wonder if there is only a few people that get upset over violence in the workplace. Another nurse kicked in the face ,another punched in the face and no consequences the the patients doing it! Why is that?

court day
I was very nervous about going to court. I thought to myself, did she really hit that hard? was the fat lip so bad? Those thoughts lasted for a short time then, I said to myself pull yourself together, are you crazy! why would you allow someone to hurt you when you are helping them! So I went to court only to find her sitting on the same bench I would be sitting on and she had a cane this time ,I wondered would she hit me with the cane??? We went before the court magistrate and she needs to return to court next month because she will be charged with assault and battery. I am glad I did this because next time she needs someones help she will think twice before she hits anyone.
